I’m turning 50 on January 14, 2022, and I’d like us to do something that day to help those marginalized by two years of pandemic conditions.
Research notes that one in seven Ottawa households today are food insecure (almost 14 percent), and rising prices for groceries only makes this worse. When folks can’t afford nutritious food, they suffer serious health consequences. In a city as rich as ours, this should not be happening.
Cooking for a Cause is an amazing initiative in our community that works to address food insecurity in our community, while supporting local businesses facing COVID-related shutdowns. They bring together 30 social service agencies and 20 food businesses to make over 3500 meals per week.
So, on January 14th, join me for a birthday celebration where we hear from leaders about what Cooking for a Cause means to our community, listen to some great music, and raise some money to sustain this important work.
Join me and Claudette Commanda, Erica Braunovan, Rabbi Liz Bolton, Craig Cardiff, Karen Secord, Dr. Nili Kaplan-Myrth, Naomi Klein, Avi Lewis, Shawn Menard, Catherine McKenny, Jeff Lieper, MC Mohammed Ali, and YOU!
