MPP Harden calls on Premier to remove Ottawa Police Board member who attended convoy occupation

Published on March 2, 2022

OTTAWA — Following a report from Queen’s Park Briefing revealing that the Provincial government Ottawa Police Services Board appointee Robert Swaita attended the convoy’s illegal occupation in the Ottawa, MPP Joel Harden is calling on the Premier to remove him from the police board. Harden released the following statement:
“It’s disturbing to learn that a government-appointed member of the Ottawa Police Services Board participated in the convoy in the national capital. This just adds insult to injury for the people of Ottawa, who are still picking up the pieces after a weeks-long occupation that wreaked havoc on their lives. Only the Premier has the power to cancel Swaita’s appointment, and he must do that immediately. It would be completely unacceptable to allow someone who actively undermined local police by standing shoulder to shoulder with occupiers that local police were tasked with clearing out to continue to participate in local police oversight.”
Swaita was appointed by an order in council by the Premier and his cabinet, and his appointment would be ended the same way.
